The Help Your Neighborhood Fund was founded to improve the lives of children in our community who, because of circumstance, are in need of a helping hand. There are numerous families who do not qualify for the federal assistance program that affords free and reduced meals at school but, whose circumstances result in the same food-insufficiency. The Help Your Neighbor Fund's immediate goal is to provide a safety net for children identified by their teachers or administrators as being in need of special support. We will be working with Metro area school districts to provide school breakfasts and lunches to students who fall into this category. Between 2003 and 2011, the Shawnee Mission School district saw the number of children participating in free or reduced lunch programs more than double and we have chosen this school district for the pilot program. Your contribution to the Help Your Neighbor Fund will go directly to purchase meals for these children in need.
