Second Chance Scholarship

The Second Chance Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 by Matt & Jessica Brandmeyer. The Fund provides scholarships to graduates of the Kansas City, KS and Kansas City, MO School Districts who have had some adversity in their lives and desire a second chance at a brighter future by continuing their education at a two-year or four-year college or university or at a vocational or technical school. We pledge continued support to our scholarship recipients throughout their educational career as long as they meet our established criteria. (Min GPA and community service)

Since 2009, we have extended scholarships to 3 to 7 high school students and adults each year who we feel demonstrate by their application, personal interview and references that they are committed to changing their futures by attending technical or college.

Second Chance Scholarship Foundation was selected for induction into the Mid-America Education Hall of Fame in 2013. The KCK Community College Endowment Association established the Mid-America Education Hall of Fame in 1996. Its purpose is to identify and recognize individuals, organizations and corporate supporters notable for their contributions to education and to provide well deserved recognition to the honorees as well as to education and its impact on our lives.

Funding for the scholarship comes from friends and family. Based on assessment of local need and proven success in our method, we are beginning to partner with others interested in educating youth of the KC metro. We also look for mentoring and internships for our scholars.
